New downtown Du Quoin clock christened 'Big John'

PROCLAMATION

A Proclamation Dedicating and Naming the New Clock

on Main Street as "Big John"

WHEREAS: Since the City of Du Quoin was established in 1853, its mayors have walked the streets of Downtown Du Quoin seeking new avenues for prosperity and overcoming adversity; and

WHEREAS: Downtown Du Quoin is today in the midst of a rebirth of enhanced aesthetic ad commercial development; and

WHEREAS: that rebirth was driven by the vision of the late Mayor John Redour, who like mayors before him, always strived for constructive pathways to a better community; and

WHEREAS: Mayor Rednour was the longest continuously serving mayor in the history of Du Quoin, and who served with the simple guiding philosophy of "What is best for Du Quoin?"; and

WHEREAS: after 24 years of service, Mayor Rednour was forced by ill health to resign his office ij February 2013 and the entire community still mourns his passing in December 2013; and

WHEREAS: John Rednour personified all of the best and most productive attributes of the mayors of Du Quoin, who preceded him i the process of building a remarkable record of accomplishments on behalf of the people, businesses and institutions of Du Quoin.

NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by Rex Duncan, Mayor of the City of Du Quoin, Illinois, by and on behalf of the Du Quoin City Council and the People of the City of Du Quoin, that the new clock, centrally positioned in the Downtown Du Quoin Business District, shall be hereafter known as "Big John"; and

BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED: that Big John shall mark the chronology of progress, growth, prosperity and active and participatory citizenship for this Great City for many, many years to come.
