Du Quoin school board will ask city to install curbs on street in front of VanMetre football field
The Du Quoin Board of Education will ask the City of Du Quoin to install curbing along East South Street in front of the stadium, received remarks of appreciation for allowing Elverado football players to co-op into the Du Quoin program and continues to deal with another $2 million loss in education aid. Thursday's board meeting included the following:
Approved the low bid analysis and awarding of bids for food, milk, bread, and custodial supplies;
Approved the Partnership for College and Career Success (dual credit and enrollment) agreement with John A. Logan College.
Jerry Beard thanked the Board for allowing students from Elverado High School the opportunity to play football at Du Quoin High School through the football cooperative agreement.
The Superintendent shared year-end budget figures with the board and discussed information relative to development of FY 2015 school year budget. The district has experienced a loss of general state aid being prorated by the state of nearly $2 million with other funding being lost to special education aid and transportation aid being prorated by the state.
The board approved a revised District Strategic Plan document with implementation to begin during the 2014-2015 school year.
The board approved an Alternative Education program agreement with Regional Office of Education. The program will provide an alternative educational opportunity for students in grades 6 through 12.
The board authorized the administration to make a written request to the City of Du Quoin for construction of curbing along South Street adjacent to football field stadium area.
The Board entered into executive session at 7:03 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees. The board returned to regular session at 7:50 p.m.
The board approved the fall extra-curricular activities volunteer list with modification as submitted by the district athletic directors.
The board adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
