Oliver D. Flatt

Oliver D. "O.D." Flatt, 72, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at his residence.

O.D. was a retired Master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, having served 20 years of active duty. He had also worked at TUMS in Pinckneyville for 20 years. After retirement he took great pride in helping with the care of Dakota and Gage whenever needed. He became an avid golfer, leaving behind his golfing buddies and friends at the Red Hawk Country Club.

He was born July 22, 1942 at West Frankfort, Ill. the son of Gerald and Phyllis (Lamb) Flatt.

O.D. married Wanda Johannes Davis on Oct. 29, 1993 at Pinckneyville and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin and her children- Chris Davis and wife Theresa and their children Leah and Cole of Thompsonville and Casey Krone and husband Paul and their children Dakota and Gage of Pinckneyville, his children- Mark Flatt of Tex., Beth Holland and husband Tony of Christopher, Oliver Flatt III of Christopher, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother- Gerald "G.W." Flatt and wife Ada of Benton, sisters- Nancy Bailey and husband Charles of Benton, Donna Sevenski and husband Mike of Benton, Kathy Miller of Melbourne, Fla., mother and father-in-law- Herb and Velma Johannes of Ashley, sister-in-law- Norma Caraker and husband Lee of Du Quoin, brother-in-law- Gary Johannes and wife Sharon of Ashley, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson- Sam Griffith.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Cindy Bean officiating.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion and the U.S. Air Force.

Friends may make memorials to the Shriners Children's Hospital or the Disabled Vets Therapy Dog Program and will be accepted at the funeral home.
