David W. Johnson

David W. Johnson, 61, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

David had worked in Environmental Services at S.I.H. at Carbondale. He had also worked for Peabody River King Mine #1 and Orient #6 Freeman Coal. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.

He was born Feb. 9, 1953 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Cornielus and Helen Mae (Keller) Johnson.

He married Theresa D. Beard on Oct. 31, 1971 at Du Quoin, Ill. and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, three children - Rebecca Steinmetz and husband Brian of Benton, David W. Johnson II and wife Betty of Percy and Bryan Johnson and wife Hilary of Du Quoin, six grandchildren - Jessica Johnson, Savanna Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Kassie Johnson, Kayley Johnson and David E.W. Johnson, three brothers - Richard Johnson and wife Mary Lou of Marissa, Keith Johnson and wife Sandy of Carmi and Scott Johnson and wife Cathy of Salem and one sister - Judy Poe and husband Roy of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner and Rev. Sammy Simmons officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.
