John W. Kearbey Sr.

John W. Kearbey Sr. 73, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:56 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014 at the home of his son in Marion.

John had worked as a coal miner at the Burning Star #3 Coal Mine and had been a prison guard at the Menard Correctional Center in Chester.

He was a member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He was born Nov. 21, 1940 at Sunfield, Ill. the son of William and Isabel (O"Keefe) Kearbey.

He is survived by four sons- John Kearbey Jr. and wife Misty of Du Quoin, Lance Kearbey and wife Ivonne of El Paso, Tex., Jarrod Kearbey of Marion and Clint Kearbey of St. Louis, Mo. He is also survived by six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law- Kay and Betty Marlow and sister- Becky Howard.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Fred Bishop officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Paradise Cemetery at Tamaroa.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion.

Friends may make memorials to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
