PCHS Board sees use for facilities tax

PCHS Superintendent Keith Hagene provided the school board information about the potential uses for revenue generated through the County School Facilities Tax which has been discussed in Du Quoin recently. The board asked Hagene to move forward with information and generate a long-range list of facilities improvements and maintenance items for review.

Hagene reported on the status of the 179D Federal Energy Tax Deduction Program with which the district is involved. The results of a recent construction systems inspection will be available within a month.

A recent power failure caused by a limb over a line caused some damage to the security camera system. It has been repaired, Hagene said.

In other business, the board:

• heard from Principal Dustin Foutch about the Study Tables program offered at PCHS. He provided several examples of individual student successes and overall statistics supporting the success of the program.

• heard from Hagene that expenditures are currently on track at the end of the first quarter of the fiscal year. The Superintendent also gave a presentation on the levy process.

• hired Scott Martin as Assistant Wrestling Coach for the 2013-14 school year.

• hired Emmalee Metcalf as Girls Assistant Basketball Coach for the 2013-14 school year.

• hired Brad Walker and Kyle Heckert as Assistant and Sophomore Boys Basketball Coaches for the 2013 - 14 school year.

• appointed Bill Yates to the Education Foundation Board.

• approved an overnight trip to the Lawrenceville Capitol Classic for the boys basketball team and an out of state trip to The Sheldon Theater by the PCHS Jazz Band.
