Sherry Mathis

Sherry Mathis, age 53, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 at 2:03 a.m. in her home.

Sherry was born on Nov. 16, 1960 in Du Quoin, Ill., a daughter to Roger A. and Judith (Philbrick) Cook. On Sept. 29, 1979, she married Rob Mathis in St. Paul United Church of Christ, Du Quoin, Ill., and he survives. Sherry was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill., where she taught Sunday school and worked as an admissions clerk at Marshall Browning Hospital, Du Quoin, Ill. She loved animals and was a founding member of the Perry County Humane Society. She also served as treasurer for the Cudgetown Cemetery Association. Sherry was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those lives she touched.

Survivors include her husband, Rob Mathis of Pinckneyville, Ill., three sons, Andrew Mathis (Shannon Clark) of Godfrey, Ill., Alex Mathis and Wyatt Allen Mathis, both of Pinckneyville, Ill., daughter, Allie (Ron) Cummins of Greenfield, Ill.; granddaughter, Harmony Cummins; mother, Judith Cook of Du Quoin, Ill., father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Dixie Mathis of Pinckneyville, Ill., brother, Steve Cook of Du Quoin, Ill. and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, Richard and Blanche Philbrick and aunt, Kathy Bailey.

Funeral services will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill., on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with her beloved husband, Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Interment will be in Cudgetown Cemetery, Du Quoin, Ill.

Friends may call at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill., on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Perry County Humane Society or Cudgetown Cemetery Association.
