Betty R. Buerkle

Betty R. Buerkle, 84, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2:05 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehab Center, surrounded by her family.

Betty was a long time Du Quoin businesswoman who was sole proprietor of Betty's Beauty Shop for over 45 years. She came out of retirement three times to do her "little ladies' hair," just one more time. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. She was a wonderful, kind, funny and loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed.

She was born Sept. 4, 1930 at Sorento, Ill., the daughter of Jake and Goldie (Richards) Shepard.

She married Robert E. Buerkle on Oct. 13, 1951 at Du Quoin, Ill. and he preceded her in death on March 3, 2003.

She is survived by three children - Randee Slover and husband David of Du Quoin, Frank Buerkle and wife Jamie of Du Quoin and Victoria Albon and husband Dean of Elkville, four grandchildren - Dr. Christine Slover of Chicago, Ill., Joel E. Albon of Carbondale, Kathryn Albon of Carbondale and Brianne Slover of Du Quoin, one sister - Wilma Morris of Lake Jackson, Tex. and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.
