Edward A. Schubert
Edward A. Schubert, 97, of Mount Vernon, passed away at 11:03 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Edward was a retired dock hand, working for Crouch Trucking in Chicago. He retired Dec. 1, 1979.
He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and a member of the Teamsters Local 710.
Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served in Hq. Co. 50 Armd Inf Ban as a TEC 5. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver Battle Star, four Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe and Good Conduct Medal.
He was born April 5, 1917 at Tamaroa, Ill. the son of Michael and Johanna (Biesk) Schubert.
Edward Married Loraine F. Zelasko on May 6, 1946 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Mount Vernon, daughter- Shirley Schubert of Mount Vernon, Ill. and son- Ronald Schubert of Marine, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois with Fr. John Iffert officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Burial will be in the St. Charles Cemetery at Du Bois.
Military graveside rites will be conducted.
Friends may make memorials to the St. Charles Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
