R. H. Havens Jr.
R. H. 'Bud' Havens Jr., 89, of Elkville, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehab Center in Du Quoin.
Bud had been associated with the Elkville State Bank in Elkville from June 1, 1962 until his retirement on May 10, 2013. At the time of his retirement Bud was the President of the bank.
He was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Carbondale Elks Lodge and the Dowell American Legion. Bud proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He served as a Aviation Machinist 2nd Class serving at Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago, Columbia, Panama and Norfolk, Va.
He was born Aug. 5, 1925 at St. Louis, Mo., the son of Rollin H. and Hazel (Werner) Havens Sr.
Bud married Jeanne Williams on Nov. 28, 1946 at Benton, Ill. and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2005.
He is survived by three children- Pat Havens of Estancia, N.M., David Havens and wife Nancy of Texarkana, Tex. and Julie Briley and husband Craig of Elkville, two sisters- Nancy Chaplain of Phoenix, Ariz. and Sally Cuddihy of Phoenix, Ariz., four grandchildren- Megan Liwanag and husband Chris of Collinsville, Ill., Kristen Havens of Texarkana, Tex., Jessica Martin and husband Andrew of O'Fallon, Ill., Melissa Davison and husband Isaac of Du Quoin, two step grandchildren- Ara Briley and wife Jessie of Chandler, Ariz. and Ali Ruiz and husband Alex of Lake Havasa City, Ariz., three great grandchildren- Cash Rhea, Naomi Davison and Mason Martin, six step great grandchildren- Ethan Martin, Alea Ruiz, Alissia Ruiz, Alejandro Ruiz, Emma Briley and Ella Briley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister- Rita Buffum and a brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Bro. Ron Kreid officiating.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion and the US Navy.
Friends may make memorials to the Elkville Park Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
