BASKETBALL: Trojans soar past Falcons

Gunnar Galloway erupted for 40 points Tuesday night to lead Crab Orchard High School's boys basketball team to a 70-50 win over Elverado in the second session of the 16th annual Crab Orchard Turkey Tournament.

The Trojans actually trailed at halftime, 34-32, but went on a 24-6 run in the third quarter with Galloway scoring 20 of those points, including four of his five 3-pointers.

Galloway, a 6-foot-2 senior, went 11 of 14 from the foul line with all of those coming in the middle two quarters. He had all but two of Crab Orchard's 14 points in the second quarter, although Elverado outscored the Trojans 24-14 in that frame.

Luke Jones led Elverado with 15 points, including a 9 of 11 performance at the foul line, while Tyler Funk had 14 points and Chase Cross added nine on three treys for the Falcons.

Galloway was Crab Orchard's only player in double figures. Travis Tarlton added eight points and Lane Hutson had seven, while McKager Ferrell chipped in five and both Jaden Schell and Amos Beasley put in four.

Crab Orchard is now 2-0 on the season and in the round-robin tournament, while Elverado fell to 0-2.

The tournament resumes Wednesday with Elverado playing Pope County at 4 p.m. - Pope County was a 56-46 winner over Joppa on Tuesday - while Crab Orchard plays Dongola at 7 p.m. after Joppa faces Hardin County, which beat Dongola 85-68 on Tuesday.
