BASKETBALL: Woodlawn tops Lady Falcons

Elverado got behind early and never fully recovered as Woodlawn left the Du Quoin Lady Indians Tip-Off Classic with a 45-36 victory on the final night of the tournament.

The Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Cardinals from the second quarter on, but trailed 12-2 after eight minutes of action and couldn't get over the hump.

"We came out of the gates slow and just never could get it back," said EHS head coach Rasheeda Love. "I really don't know where they were tonight. I don't know if they were already at the Thanksgiving table eating turkey or what, but they clearly were not the same team that we saw play here (Monday) night against Murphysboro. I'm at a loss for words right now."

Elverado had just twelve points at halftime and at that point had made just two field goals.

Cheyenne Abbadusky and Brooke Whittington each finished with a team-high nine points for the Falcons. Paige Newfarmer had eight points, Kylee Bedar and Hannah Alstat had three, and Kaitlin Lively and Tori Ehlers both had two.

Lexy Knox led Woodlawn with thirteen points.

Elverado (0-5) is off until Monday when they host Sesser-Valier for their home opener in Elkville.
