Carolyn Louise Evans
Carolyn Louise Evans, age 81, of Vergennes, Ill., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at 12:03 p.m. in Fairview Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Du Quoin, Ill.
Carolyn was born on Sept. 4, 1933 in Dupo, Ill., a daughter to Oscar and Eleanor (Rusterberg) Schellhardt. On Sept. 4, 1953, she married Charles Clifford Evans Sr. in St. Louis, Mo. and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1983. Carolyn was a resident of rural Vergennes, Ill. after moving from East St. Louis, Ill. in 1976. She and her husband Charles operated multiple businesses and farmed after being married on her 20th birthday. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church, Du Quoin, Ill., and loved to plan and direct church, social and family events. She loved to travel and enjoyed cooking, catering and crafting of all kinds.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Edgar) Nicholson of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Sharon (Michael) McClain of Vergennes, Ill.; three sons, Charles (Sherida) Evans Jr. of Vergennes, Ill., Steven (Tina) Evans of Carlinville, Ill. and Gregory (Margaret) Evans of Ozark, Ill.; 13 grandchildren, Kari, Jenny, Michael, Courtney, Jaymee, Justin, Christopher, Rebecca, Ashley, Gregory, Victoria, Samantha and Seth; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Jones and Sarah Norris and one brother, Virgil Schellhardt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Oscar Schellhardt Jr.; one sister, Delores Angell and grandson, Lucas Evans.
Funeral services will be held at the United Pentecostal Church, Du Quoin, Ill., on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Steven Evans, Reverend Dan McKinnies and Reverend C.L. McKinnies officiating. Interment will be in Parrish Cemetery, Vergennes, Ill.
Friends may call at the United Pentecostal Church, Du Quoin, Ill., on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lucas Evans Memorial Scholarship Fund or United Pentecostal Church (UPC), Du Quoin, Ill. (Checks written out to the Lucas Evans Scholarship Fund can be made out to the Du Quoin UPC church and noted)
