BOYS BASKETBALL: Galik leads Carterville in rout of Du Quoin, 75-53

Former Indian Will Galik scored 22 points to lead Carterville to their 75-53 conference home win over Du Quoin on Friday night, as the Indians suffered their third loss in a row.

Du Quoin was within five at 27-22 with about three minutes to go in the first half when the Lions mounted a charge to extend their lead. Will Galik had a three-pointer to spark a 9-1 run heading in the break to give Carterville a 36-22 advantage.

The Indians got no closer during the second half, as the Lions came out of the locker rooms in the third quarter looking to pick up the pace on offense. Carterville scored 28 points in the third to solidify the victory at 64-39 with eight minutes left.

Jarred Thomas led the Indians with 15 points in the losing effort. Brock Bullar hit four three-pointers in the game and finished with 14 points. Both were joined in double figures by Caleb Vogel, who had 11 points prior to fouling out. A.J. Smith added 6 points, Hank Stewart 5 and Tucker Kuhnert 2.

Austin Swalls (19 points) and Matt Galik (13) gave Carterville three players in double figures for the night.

DHS (8-14, 1-5) gets back to work on Tuesday night when they host high-powered West Frankfort (17-5) to Anders Gymnasium for non-conference action.

The Indians will then host Mississippi Division-mate Pinckneyville on Friday before heading to Herrin on Saturday night for a non-conference matchup with the Tigers.
