GIRLS BASKETBALL: Carterville spoils Senior Night at PCHS

A 14-2 second quarter by the visiting Lady Lions put Pinckneyville in a hole they couldn't climb back out of as Carterville spoiled Senior Night at PCHS with a 53-42 victory.

The loss dropped the Lady Panthers to 6-4 in the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference's Mississippi Division, where they finish the season in third place behind Carterville and Nashville.

PCHS led 12-11 after the first quarter, but the Lady Lions' big second quarter put them in command 25-13 at the break. Pinckneyville was within ten at 37-27 with 1:42 left in the third period, but got outscored 9-0 the rest of the quarter, rendering the Lady Panthers' strong fourth period all but meaningless.

Seniors Megan Bagley, Kaitlyn Goldman, Caitie Opp, Kearsten Opp and Keelyn Stein were recognized prior to the game.

Andrea Morgan led PCHS with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point land. Sophie Keith joined Morgan in double digits with 10 points, and made it a double-double with her dozen rebounds.

Stein (7 points), K. Opp (5) and Raygan Yates (5) also scored for the Lady Panthers. Avery English led Carterville with 16 points.
