GIRLS BASKETBALL: Nashville hammers Du Quoin

Nashville allowed only seven field goals by the Lady Indians in Thursday night's Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division match-up at Du Quoin, as the Hornettes cruised to a 43-22 victory with three players scoring in double figures.

Nashville closed out the first quarter on a 12-2 run to lead 16-5, and by halftime Du Quoin was down 23-9. Three-pointers by Alaina Caldwell and Kate Smith couldn't stop the Hornettes from extending their lead to twenty by the end of the third period.

Caldwell had six points to lead the Lady Indians in scoring. Tarynn Mays added four, Smith, Emily Born and Mackenzie Jackson each had three, Sadie Day two and Grace Haney one.

Du Quoin (9-21, 3-7) will now get ready for IHSA Regional action, which begins next week. The Lady Indians are at Benton as the fifth seed and take on Pinckneyville, the fourth seed, at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The winner gets top-seeded Benton on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. in the semifinals.

The Regional championship game will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday's other semifinal features second-seeded Sesser-Valier and third-seeded Zeigler-Royalton.
