Vernon Lee Melvin
Vernon Lee Melvin, 62, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:24 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at his residence.
Vernon had worked as a mill operator at U.S. Sugar Corporation. He was a member of Matthews Baptist Church. Vernon was also a member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge #779. He enjoyed fishing, bonfires, grilling, traveling and family and friends.
He was born May 22, 1952 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Joseph Owen and Violet (Shelby) Melvin.
He married Diana Sanders on Sept. 10, 2001 at Clewiston, Fla. and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, two sons - Shawn Melvin of Christopher and Joe Tobias Melvin of Buckner, two daughters - Phonda Sanders of Carbondale and Cheryl and Shane Swallers of Ridge Crest, Calif., two granddaughters/daughters - Sydney Sanders-Melvin and Summer Sanders-Melvin, both of Du Quoin, two sisters - Nancy McNeeley and JoAnna Robey, both of Du Quoin, five brothers - Dennis Melvin and wife Henry of Dowell, Joe Melvin of Du Quoin, David Melvin and wife Wendy of Du Quoin, Chris Melvin and wife Veronica of Holdrege, Neb. and Mark Melvin and wife Debbie of Holdrege, Neb., nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers - Norman Melvin and John Melvin, one brother in infancy - William Melvin and one sister in infancy - Jean Ellen Melvin.
Memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
