Belton Eugene Caldwell

Belton Eugene Caldwell, age 64, of Mount Vernon, passed away 12:50 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015 at Mount Vernon Health Care Center in Mount Vernon.

Belton was born Feb. 13, 1951 in Mount Vernon, the son of Belton and Ida Jean (Bass) Caldwell. He married Sharon (Mattox) Sept. 1, 1973 and they later divorced.

Belton was a member of the Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and later was ordained as a minister. He served as Pastor at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Du Quoin, Ill. and Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Hallidayboro, Illinois. Belton had worked for Illinois Power and later Mount Vernon District 80 Schools, working with special needs children. He also worked at Rend Lake College in Maintenance.

Mr. Caldwell is survived by his daughters, Kiev and husband Travis Tolka of Indianapolis, Indiana and Stephanie Caldwell and special friend Jerry Pollard of Mount Vernon; sisters, Kay Caldwell-Woodgett and Cheryl Thompson and husband Donald all of Mount Vernon; brothers, Samuel Caldwell and wife Joann of Washington D.C, and Lawrence Caldwell and wife Patricia of Landover, Maryland; three grandchildren, Amiyah Caldwell, Kamaree Pollard and Eli Tolka and also several nieces and nephews.

Belton was preceded in death by his parents and a stillborn brother, Belton Caldwell Jr.

Funeral services for Belton Caldwell will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church 1026 Newby Avenue in Mount Vernon with Reverend Ronald Johnson and Reverend William Ronald Lash officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
