Dist. 300 superintendent to national committee of school superintendents
Dr. Gary L. Kelly, Superintendent of the DuQuoin Community Unit School District 300 in DuQuoin was elected to a three-year term on the executive committee of AASA, the National School Superintendents Association.
Headquartered in Alexandria, Va., AASA is celebrating its 150th anniversary and serves as the nation's premier organization for school system leaders dedicated to supporting superintendents and emerging educational leaders throughout the country.
The 21-member committee, elected by AASA's governing board, represents each region of the country. The committee meets quarterly and conducts the ongoing business of the organization.
"AASA serves as a national voice for public school leadership throughout this country, which is why I am honored to work for this great organization," said Kelly. "Serving on this committee, I will work tirelessly to make positive contributions that will not only help AASA, but also, more importantly, our nation's superintendents and the students we serve."
A school administrator for more than 20 years, Kelly began his tenure as Superintendent of the DuQuoin School District in 1997. Prior to that, he served as assistant superintendent in the district for three years. He has been a member of the Illinois Association of School Administrators since 1994 and served as its statewide president during the 2010-2011 school year. He has been a member of AASA since 1994.
In July, Kelly and four other superintendents from across the country will be sworn in as AASA executive committee members during a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
