Du Quoin Fire Department Capt. John VanVoorhis to retire

The Du Quoin City Council meets in regular session on Monday at 6 p.m. One of the most important items on the agenda is the acceptance of the retirement resignation of an outstanding firefighter and safety educator, Capt. John VanVoorhis.

His career with the Du Quoin department began as a paid-on-call fireman in 1989. He joined the department fulltime in July 1993.
