SOFTBALL: Lady Falcons rout Century 10-0 in six innings

Paige Newfarmer was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and the Lady Falcons won big on Friday, shutting out Century 10-0 in six innings in Vergennes for their third victory of the season. Elverado smacked a dozen hits and pitcher Britani Prescott allowed only four by the Centurions.

"We hit the ball well today," said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. "Paige (Newfarmer) had a great day at the plate, Britani (Prescott) pitched a great game with great defense behind her. It's good to get another conference win."

Cheyenne Abbadusky (triple), Baylie McClanahan (RBI single) and Newfarmer (single) started the bottom of the first with hits for the Lady Falcons, and Prescott (ground-out) and Brooke Whittington (sacrifice fly) later added RBIs to give Elverado an early 3-0 lead.

Newfarmer drove in Abbadsuky with a double in the second frame to make it 4-0, and Kadie Dunmyer (sac fly) and Elizabeth Schafer (single) drove in runs in the third to give the Lady Falcons a 6-0 edge.

Newfarmer and Kaitlin Lively added two-run singles in the sixth to force the mercy rule into effect.

Abbadusky (2-3, 3 R, 3B, BB), McClanahan (2-4, 2 R, RBI), Newfarmer (4-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2B), Lively (2-3, R, 2 RBI, BB), Schafer (1-3, RBI) and Maycee Bowlin (1-3, 2B) had hits for the Lady Falcons.

Elverado (3-6, 2-1) is at Meridian on Tuesday, then returns home on Wednesday to host Cairo.

Last Monday, the Lady Falcons rallied back from a 6-0 deficit at Goreville to get within two after a four-run fifth inning, but couldn't get over the hump against the Lady Blackcats, who scored in five of the six innings they batted.

"(Goreville starting pitcher Sydnee) Rushing shut us down the first four innings, but we tagged (reliever Jacqueline) Mcspadden pretty good," Wheatley said. "We just came up a little short. We played better defensively and the girls never quit."

McClanahan (1-4, R, RBI, 2B, BB), Whittington (1-4, 2 RBI, 2B), Newfarmer (2-3, R, 2B, BB), Prescott (2-4, R, 2B), Bowlin (3-4, 2 R, 2B) and Dunmyer (1-4, R) hit safely for EHS against Goreville.
