SOFTBALL: Nashville's Ingram beats Du Quoin - again

For the sixth meeting in a row, Maci Ingram picked up a win in the pitching circle against Du Quoin as the Hornettes shut out the Lady Indians 3-0 in Tuesday's conference matchup at Nashville.

Ingram just barely outpitched her counterpart, Du Quoin's Marisa Ferguson, who didn't allow an earned run and gave up just five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. Ingram, however, fanned fourteen Lady Indians and surrendered only three hits.

"Ferguson was again outstanding on the mound," said DHS head coach Jason James.

"We had a few miscues that led to three unearned runs, but we battled and didn't give in. I am frustrated with the 14 strikeouts, especially the six looking. We had runners on, just couldn't get that big hit. Again we are improving and are going to get geared up for our next two games, Carterville and Pinckneyville."

Ingram struck out the side to start the game, then her offense gave her all the run support she would need in the bottom of the first inning.

Jordi Harre led off with a single, advanced on an error, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Diedra Holzhauer.

Jordyn Bullar led off the top of the second with a double for Du Quoin, but was stranded there after three consecutive strikeouts dished out by Ingram.

An error allowed Nashville to move up 2-0 in the bottom of the third before the Lady Indians again put runners on in the top of the fourth.

Mackenzie Jackson (1-3) singled and Amanda Atteberry reached on an error, but again Ingram struck out the side.

The Hornettes led 3-0 after another error plated a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Bullar (2-3, 2 2B) doubled again to start the seventh for DHS, but Ingram got a flyout, a strikeout, and a ground-out to end the ball game.

Du Quoin travels to Carterville to face the unbeaten Lady Lions on Thursday.
