Obituary for Allan Witbart
ALLAN WITBART, 90, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 2:31 pm, Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Three Springs Lodge Nursing Home, Chester, Illinois.
He was born to the late Albert and Anna (nee Leaders) Witbart on December 12, 1924 in Welge, Illinois.
He married Dorothea "Dottie" Veath on April 23, 1949 at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois; she preceded him in death on March 14, 2014.
Allan and Dottie owned and managed the Chester Paint and Fabric Store from 1956 till their retirement in 1997.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois; St. John P.T.L, where he was the chairman from 1963-64 and former member of the St. John Choir.
He was a member of American Legion Post #487 in Chester, where he was a past commander (1961-62); member of the V.F.W. Post #3553 in Chester, Evergreen Cemetery Board (1986-94), Chester Chamber of Commerce, Chester Rotary Club, Chester Investment Club and Chester Country Club.
He was also a member of the Chester Lions Club, where he served as chairman from (1963-64) and was also the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award.
He was a WWII Navy Veteran.
Survivors include two sons Bruce Allan (Marcia) Witbart,Wichita, KS and Craig Curtis (Judith) Witbart, Town and Country, MO; one brother Richard "Butch" (Anne) Witbart, Steeleville, IL; one sister-in-law Marion Young, North Brook, IL; two grandchildren Philip Allan (Alicia) Witbart and Lauren Ann Witbart; three great grandchildren Ally Witbart, Peter Witbart and Chris Witbart and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral service was held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 14, 2015 at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois with Rev. James Leistico officiating.
Interment was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Chester, Illinois. Memorials can be made to St. John Lutheran School Building Fund.
