TRACK & FIELD: T-SB girls, #204 boys win Class S Track & Field State

Two area teams are Track & Field State Champions after the SIJHSAA Class S State Track & Field Meet - Tamaroa-St. Bruno's girls and Pinckneyville District #204's boys both finished atop the rankings on Saturday at the Herrin Sports Complex.

T-SB outdistanced second place Nashville with 61.2 points to 50 on the girls' side. Saints Peter & Paul was third. The #204 Tigers finished in a dead heat for first with Sesser-Valier with 44 points, three better than third-place OLMC in the boys division.

Three local athletes also won state championships as individuals. For T-SB's state champion girls team, Gabrielle Alongi took home the state title in the 1600 meters (5:44.19) and the 800 meters (2:34.97). For T-SB's boys, Grant Tanner finished first in the 7th grade 100 meter dash (12.71). Pinckneyville #204's Noah Conner won the high jump (5'9).

Other finishers earning points for Tamaroa-St. Bruno included Tanner (7th, boys 200 meters, 26.86; 4th, boys long jump, 17'4.5), Kenzie Rushing (6th, girls 400 meters, 1:06.31), Dakota Krone (2nd, girls 7th grade 100 meter dash, 14.21; 2nd, girls 200 meters, 28.82; 2nd, girls long jump, 15'11.25), Grace Alongi (5th, girls 800 meters, 2:41.11), girls 4x400 relay (Ashley Kellerman, Kenzie Rushing, Gabrielle Alongi, Dakota Krone - 2nd, 4:36.19), Kyla Epplin (7th, girls high jump, 4'2.1) and Keely Epplin (8th, girls high jump, 4'2).

Pinckneyville #204's other top performances included Conner (3rd, boys 100 meter hurdles, 16.11), Stetson Lappin (2nd, boys 100 meter hurdles, 15.81; 4th, boys 400 meters, 57.10; 5th, boys 100 meters, 13.06; 4th, boys 200 meters, 26.39), boys 7th grade 4x200 relay (3rd, 1:55.24), girls 4x200 relay (5th, 2:01.37), and girls 4x400 relay (8th, 4:47.24).

Elverado's Allie Whittington was third in the girls 400 meters (1:04.87), eighth in the girls 100 meter dash (14.38), and seventh in the long jump (15'0.5).
