Obituary for Devon Gentry Wood

CHESTER - Devon Gentry Wood, 27, of Chester, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born at the Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, Illinois on October 7, 1987, the daughter of Kim Esselman and Timothy Gentry.

Devon was the beloved wife of Daniel Wood. She married the love of her life on September 26, 2009 in Sparta, Illinois. On February 11, 2012, Devon and Daniel became the proud parents of a beautiful little girl, Darcie M. Wood.

Darcie survived the accident that took her mother from us.

Devon graduated from Sparta High School in Sparta, Illinois, with the class of 2006. She went on to earn a degree as a Radiology Technician from Southwestern Illinois College in 2010.

Devon was employed by Red Bud Regional Hospital in Red Bud, Illinois. Devon was also an outstanding photographer and she started her own photography business, Wood Photography in Chester.

She also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Devon was a member of the Landmark Apostolic Church in Sparta.

Although Devon excelled in everything she did, nothing compared to being a wife and mother.

She loved her family more than anything in the world. Anyone viewing her photos with her husband and daughter can see her love and devotion to her family.

She had a natural ability to put a smile on everyone's face. Devon's family, friends and everyone she ever met will never forget her.

She continued to touch other's lives with her passing, by giving the gift of life, through organ donation.

Devon leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Daniel Wood of Chester; her three year old daughter, Darcie M. Wood; her mother, Kim and Gary Smith of Sparta and her father, Timothy Gentry of Sparta; paternal grandfather, Donald (Patricia) Gentry of Sparta; maternal grandmother, Lena Esselman of Chester; and a host of family and friends.

Devon was preceded in death by her Maternal Grandfather, Donald Esselman and her paternal grandmother, Jo Higgins.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Sparta with Rev. Douglas A. Rice officiating.

Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Sparta. Visitation will be at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Sparta, on Tuesday from 4 pm until 8 pm and on Wednesday from 9 am until 11 am. Memorials may be given to Darcie.
