Obituary for Elmer Julius Herman Vieregge
<span>ELMER JULIUS HERMAN VIEREGGE, 97,</span><span> of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 12:11 pm, Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Manor Court in Carbondale, Illinois.</span>
<span>He was born to the late William and Nellie (nee: Leaders) Vieregge on February 14, 1918 in Chester.</span>
<span>He married Alberta Huskey on January 9, 1943 in Perryville, Mo; she preceded him in death on March 30, 1997. </span>
<span>Elmer retired as a civilian computer equipment specialist with the U.S Air Force. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps as a drill sergeant and a bomb sight instructor.</span>
<span>When he returned home, he worked at the shoe factory where he became the secretary of the union until the factory closed.</span>
<span>He was a proud American, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather.</span>
<span>He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Alva Courier Post #487; a 50 year, 33</span><span>rd</span><span> Degree Master Mason, who sponsored several local children for the Shriner's Hospital; a member of Lodge #72; Scottish Rite in Belleville and Ainad Shrine in E. St. Louis; Randolph County Shrine Club; a member of the Eagles Aerie #3252 and the Air Force Association.</span>
<span>Elmer will be remembered with honor and love as the patriarch of the family. He provided stability and strength, instilled integrity and provided unconditional love to his child and grandchildren.</span>

<span>Survivors include four grandchildren Laura (Andrew J.) Mifflin, Charles (Leslie) Korando, Jodie (Gary) Seaver, Nathan Zipprich; eight-great grandchildren Allyson Justine Mifflin, Austin Michael Korando, Aaron David Korando, Kylee Alayda Korando, Kimberly Rae Zipprich, Karissa June Zipprich, Matthew Dustin Mifflin and Jake Mitchell Korando; one great-great grandchild, AnnaBelle Kay Cheatham; one brother Delbert (Glenda) Vieregge; one sister-in-law Norma Vieregge; many nieces and nephews.</span>
<span>Preceded in death by parents, wife - Alberta Vieregge, two daughters - Gertrude Nellie Vieregge and Cara June Schneier, two brothers - Clarence Vieregge and William Vieregge, one sister - Ethel Moeller.</span>
<span>Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.</span>
<span>Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester, with the Rev. Andrew J. Mifflin officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Chester.</span>
