Harry Eugene Carney

Harry Eugene Carney, Jr., 83, of Marissa, IL, passed away at 6:08 P.M., Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL.

Harry had been a pipe fitter for UE/Ameren. He was of the Baptist faith. Harry was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from November 7, 1952 until November 6, 1954. He achieve the rank of Corporal.

He was born May 26, 1932 at Chicago, IL, the son of Harry Eugene and Ruby (Keller) Carney, Sr.

He married Joanne Wright on June 16, 1972 at Du Quoin, IL and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Marissa, four children - Terrie Venters of Odin, IL, Brett Obertini of Pinckneyville, Charles Obertini of Du Quoin and Mike Obertini of Du Quoin, one sister - Pam Harrell of Du Quoin, one brother - Richard Carney of Hillsboro, eight grandchildren - Denny Wheat, Jeremy Wheat, Matthew Wheat, Mike Obertini, Kaigon Obertini, Chris Obertini, Zackery Obertini, and Angie Litino, and fourteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter - Debbie Bowden, and three sisters - Judy Wright, Juanita Ainslie, and Patricia Martin.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
