Du Quoin Loses to Sparta Friday 48-41

Sparta outscored Du Quoin 21-10 in the fourth quarter Friday, rallying to defeat the Tribe 48-41 in Anders Gym.

With the loss, Du Quoin is 5-21 and 1-8 the SIRR. The Bulldogs are 8-18 and 1-7.

Sparta was ahead the Indians 16-12 late in the second period, but Du Quoin rallied.

Ashton Smith, Klayton Donoghue and Caleb Vogel all hit single free throws and Donoghue hit lay-up as the Indians led by three. Vogel scored again to beat the buzzer for a 21-16 edge.

Sparta outscored Du Quoin 11-10 in the third quarter but quickly took charge down the stretch.

Drew Kordys scored nine points in the fourth quarter and Devin Brown hit seven free throws as Bulldogs pulled away.

Brown scored 19 points, Kordys added nine and Gabe Yearian eight.

Vogel led Du Quoin with 11 and Hank Stewart added 10.
