Indians and Herrin split doubleheader

Du Quoin and Herrin met for a doubleheader Saturday morning, and each team left the Ballpark at Du Quoin High School a victory.

In the opener, Jordan Edwards and Bryce Clarry combined on a seven hitter as Du Quoin won. The final score was 7-4.

Herrin then returned the favor in the game 2 , winning 4-1 as Jason Hartline smacked a three -run double in the ninth.

The Indians are 1-2 and will host Red Bud at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Herrin's Tigers are 3-2.

In game one, Du Quoin broke a 3-3 tie by scoring four times in the fourth. Edwards and Dalton Day drew back-to-back walks and moved up on a successful bunt by second baseman Hank Stewart. Luke Metten singled one run home, giving Du Quoin a 4 -3 lead.

Cole Hopkins then doubled for the fifth run , but Brock Bullar popped out. Ryne O'Rourke then doubled in the final two runs, sending Metten and Hopkins home to make it 7 -3. In the sixth, Edwards got the first two outs before running in to trouble.

Clarry relieved and issued walks to Hartline and Blake Starkweather, sending Gavin Gosha home.

Gosha singled and Trent Stuckey walked to start the two- out rally.

.The inning ended , however, when Clarry forced a pop-out. .In the seventh, Clarry finished strong. He struck out one to record the save. Edwards (1-0) whiffed six to get the win, scattering six hits.

Bullar and Ashton Smith each had two hits for the Indians with O' Rourke, Braden Lee, Hopkins, Day and Metten adding hits.

Game two turned into a pitcher's duel between Stuckey and Lee. Lee lasted in the ninth before Day entered.

A three-run double by Hartline put the Tigers ahead for good. Day (0-2) was the loser. Gosha took the win.
