POOL TOURNAMENT

Sparta Lions Club is hosting a pool tournament and silent auction on Sunday, April 10, to benefit Craig Lovelace.

Lovelace was diagnosed with Stage 4 bilateral lung cancer that metastasized to his right hip and spinal vertebrae. He has started undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Craig has four children and five grandchildren and is in need of donations for medical bills, transportation to and from treatments and other daily living expenses.

All donations will be greatly accepted.

The pool tournament starts at 3 p.m. with a $15 entry fee and 50 percent payback. The silent auction starts at 11 a.m. and concludes at the end of the pool tournament.

CIRCUS PERFORMANCES

The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus will be having shows in Sparta and Marissa on April 11 and 12.

On April 11, the circus will visit Sparta with shows at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce and will take place next to Walmart.

The next day, the circus heads to the Marissa City Park for two shows at the same times as Sparta. The Marissa event is sponsored by the Marissa Chamber of Commerce.

Tickets are $10 in advance for adults ($13 same-day) and $7 in advance for children/seniors ($8 same-day).

SHOOTING MATCH

American Legion Post 396 in Sparta is having a shooting match on Sunday, April 10, starting at 12:30 p.m.

Doors will open at noon. Food will be provided and a meat wheel will be featured.
