Two injured in three-vehicle accident

Two people were transported to Red Bud Regional Hospital after a three-vehicle accident on April 14 in the 5400 block of Route 154.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office crash report, a 2010 Mercedes GLK350 - driven by 59-year-old Eunju A. Suk of Creve Coeur, Mo. - and a 2013 Kenworth T800 tractor-trailer - driven by 55-year-old Devon Baerg of Butterfield, Minn. - were westbound on Route 154.

The third vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by 68-year-old Lawrence C. Stork of Sparta, was eastbound on the highway.

Suk reported to law enforcement that a vehicle in front of her went to pass the Kenworth, so she pulled into the westbound lane to also pass the Kenworth.

In doing so, Suk said she became impaired by sunlight and could not see, making contact with the trailer of the Kenworth and hitting the Grand Caravan head on.

The Mercedes then left the roadway and traveled down the embankment into a field, while the Grand Caravan spun as a result of the collision and came to a stop at the driveway of 5483 Route 154.

The Kenworth stopped on the highway. Both Suk and Stork were transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries, while Baerg was uninjured.

Suk was cited for improper passing. The accident was reported at 7:28 a.m., with Deputy Janice Barbour responding.
