According to Steeleville Assistant Police Chief Tyler Cleland, 44-year-old Frankie Randall Shane Robertson was taken into custody after calling 911 several times for a non-emergency.

"The dispatcher called me and said he was calling her and she was telling him not to call unless it was an emergency," Cleland said. "The dispatcher signed a complaint."

Randolph County State's Attorney Jeremy Walker said misuse of 911 falls under disorderly conduct and is a Class 4 felony with a sentencing range of probation to up to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

"We see it, it's just not one of our more common charges," he said.

Bond for Robertson was set at $5,000 and he remained in Randolph County Jail as of Friday afternoon.

During a bond hearing earlier Friday, Robertson was appointed a public defender and scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 25 at 10 a.m.

"I've been doing this for over 12 years and I can think, including him, four people have been arrested for this," Cleland said. "I know he was tying up the phone lines and talking about whatever he was talking about."
