Original story is below:

A Monday afternoon two-vehicle accident on Eden Road near Pierce Lane has resulted in fatal injuries to one person and life-threatening injuries to two others.

According to the Illinois State Police's preliminary accident report, 19-year-old Du Quoin resident Kevin J. Clover was driving a silver 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound on Eden Road around 4 p.m.

Due to heavy rain and possibly driving too fast for conditions - according to the ISP - Clover lost control of his vehicle, which began to spin.

The Cobalt then spun into the path of a gray 2013 Volkswagen Passat, driven by 25-year-old Cale L. Wine, of Coulterville. The Passat, which was southbound on Eden Road approaching Pierce Lane, struck the Cobalt on the passenger side in a head-on manner.

Both Clover and Wine were transported to Sparta Community Hospital and then airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A passenger in Clover's vehicle was fatally injured and police are withholding that person's name pending family notification. All occupants were wearing their seat belts and the ISP reports that charges are pending.

Assisting agencies were the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Sparta Fire Department, Sparta Police Department and MedStar Ambulance.
