Passenger in Du Quoin teen's car killed in accident

A passenger in a Du Quoin teen's car was killed Monday when one car spun into the path of another.

Around 4 p.m. Monday, the driver of a Silver 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Kevin J. Clover, 19, of Du Quoin, was traveling north on Eden Road in Randolph County, southeast of Sparta, and lost control of his car as he was approaching the intersection with Pearce Lane, Illinois State Police reported late Monday.

The rain was heavy and Clover's car started spinning on Eden Road into the path of a 2013 Gray Volkswagen Passat driven by Cale L. Wine, 25, of Coulterville. Wine's car, moving south on Eden Road, struck the passenger side of Clover's car in a head-on manner as it moved in front of Wine's Volkswagen, the ISP reports.

All three, the two drivers and the passenger riding with Clover, were taken to Sparta Hospital and then flown to St. Louis University Hospital by Arch Air Medical. Along the way, the passenger died. Police are not naming the deceased until notifying the family.

All three involved in the wreck were wearing seat belts. The ISP reports that charges are pending. Agencies assisting the ISP include the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, Sparta Police Department, Sparta Fire Department and MedStar EMS.
