Car accident leads to arrest of Carbondale man

A Sept. 7 traffic accident on Church Street in Chester resulted in the arrest of a Carbondale man for felony possession of drug screen fraud equipment.

According to a news release from the Chester Police Department, officers responded to the report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Church and Valley streets at 2:45 p.m.

Officers learned a 2007 Chrysler minivan, driven by 76-year-old Elmer Petzoldt of Perryville, Mo., was turning north onto Church Street from Valley Street when the vehicle entered the path of a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro driven by 39-year-old Terrill A. Walker.

Both vehicles suffered minor damage, but Walker was found to have an active warrant for failure to appear in court on a speeding charge in Washington County, Ill.

Police discovered the illegal items, possession of which is a Class 4 felony (with a possible punishment of one to three years in prison), during a search of Walker's vehicle.

Walker was taken into custody and transported to Randolph County Jail, where he posted bond and was released.

The Randolph County State's Attorney's Office told the Herald Tribune that Walker has not been officially charged on the defrauding a drug screening test charge.

State's Attorney Jeremy Walker was unavailable for comment.
