Drowsy driving causes Route 150 crash

Drowsy driving may have been the cause of a single-vehicle crash on Sept. 27 on State Route 150 near Surman Lane.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff's crash report, 22-year-old Shelly Farris, of Campbell Hill, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo eastbound on Route 150.

Farris told law enforcement that she may have fallen asleep for a second, causing the vehicle to drift over the center line.

Farris then overcorrected, causing the Monte Carlo to go into a skid and run off the right side of the road. The Monte Carlo then struck a ditch embankment and overturned, striking a utility pole before coming to a stop.

Farris was taken to Memorial Hospital of Chester for treatment, while a 54-year-old passenger, Shirley Forcum of Tilden, was not injured.

The accident was reported at 5:28 p.m. with Deputy Eric Hamilton responding.
