Pet blessing at St. Mary's

St. Mary's School held a pet blessing on Tuesday, as The Very Rev. Eugene Wojcik performed the ceremony.

"We've done this since back when I was in grade school," said Brandy Maes, who attended the ceremony. "It is done on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi.

"Father Gene did a blessing during mass over some medals/pendants that had a little saying on them about pets."

Students, teachers, parishioners family and friends gathered between the church and school for the blessing. Children who couldn't bring their pets brought photos or stuffed animals with them.

"Father Gene then said another blessing over the pets and each pet was able to go up and be blessed," Maes said.

"The kids always love showing off their pets and getting to meet the pets of other students."
