CHS Cheerleading announces 2017 Cheer Camp
<p dir="ltr"><span>The 2017 Chester High School Cheer Camp is rapidly approaching and the CHS cheerleaders and coaches have released details about the upcoming event.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Dates for this year’s cheer camp are Sunday, February 5 (1-2:20 p.m.), Monday, February 6 (5:30-7 p.m.) and Wednesday, February 8 (5:30-7 p.m.).</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>On Thursday, February 9, the campers will perform at halftime of the CHS boys basketball junior varsity game against Steeleville in Colbert Gymnasium.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>“We already had the registration forms published and distributed when we realized that Sunday February 5 is Super Bowl Sunday,” said CHS assistant cheer coach Michelle Rust. “We did not want to interfere with family Super Bowl plans so we moved the time of opening day camp from 5:30-7 to 1-2:30 p.m.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>“Please note the new earlier time for Sunday’s camp.”</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>All camp instruction will take place in Juergen’s Gymnasium. The theme this year is “Cheering Through the Years.”</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>“The campers will learn routines accompanied by music from the (19)80s, ‘90s and 2000s,” Rust said.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Any girl or boy from age 3 through 8th grade are welcome to participate in the camp. Registration forms have already been distributed to Chester Grade School, St. John Lutheran School and St. Mary’s Catholic School. </span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>“We want everyone to understand that students from any school in the area are welcome to attend the camp,” said CHS cheer coach Rachel Ranta-Marshall.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>The cost for the camp is $25 and includes a free T-shirt, camp instruction, snacks, games, a cheer bow, lots of cheer fun and the final night performance. </span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>For more information, contact Ranta-Marshall at 618-826-2354. The deadline to submit forms to guarantee a T-shirt is January 23 and the forms must be filled out in full.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>All forms must be either mailed to or taken to Chester Grade School, Attention: Rachel Ranta-Marshall, Head Cheer Coach, 650 Opdyke Street, Chester, Illinois, 62233.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>“It is very important to send or deliver the completed forms and the $25 registration fee by the deadline,” Ranta-Marshall said. “Checks should be made payable to Chester High School Cheerleading.</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>“Campers names will be listed on the back of the cheer T-shirts but registration forms must be submitted by the January 23 deadline for names to be included on the back of the shirts.”</span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Parents, siblings and others are welcome to order camp shirts at a price of $15 each. Also available are black soffe cheer shorts at $15 each. </span>
<p dir="ltr"><span>Finally, the CHS cheerleaders will offer to take a photo with individual campers for a price of $5 each.</span>
