Du Quoin Public Library celebrates Dr. Seuss Monday night

There's no better place in Du Quoin for a kid

than the library on Washington Street.

Oh, so you haven't heard? Well, we can fix that.

Put those shoes right back on your feet.

We know you've been working all day at school,

but this isn't another class,

or maybe it is, 'cause you'll learn a whole lot,

and you won't have to study to pass.

Just bring your brain and be ready to use it,

and you won't be sorry you came.

There are worlds to explore and people to meet

and games and more games and more games.

And if you come Monday, the sixth of March

You're in for a really big treat.

It's a birthday party with snacks and prizes,

and a guest that you really should meet.

He's the Cat in the Hat and he knows some good games

and some tricks, and he'll show them to you.

'We can have lots of fun that is funny,' he'll say,

'And your mother won't mind if we do.'

But it doesn't end there, no it doesn't, we say,

since we're talking about Dr. Seuss.

Oh, the thinks you will think will surprise you. They will.

They're lined up for you to let loose.

You might see a sleigh and an elephant there,

and think that it would be so grand,

if the sleigh that the elephant had hitched on behind

was filled with a great big brass band!

You might hear the roar of a motor.

You might see an airplane appear,

and dump out great bags of confetti,

while the crowd lets out a big cheer.

And before you know it, you'll be off on your own,

Thinking thinks that only you know.

Pretending to be something other than you,

with lots of cool places to go.

So come down to the public library.

You'll hear stories that just can't be beat.

And they're never as cool as on Monday,

Dr. Seuss day on Washington Street.
