Steeleville softball moves up to No. 5
<span style="font-weight: 400;">The Illinois Coaches Association released its first regular season softball poll on Tuesday, with Steeleville moving from seventh to fifth in Class 1A.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">The Lady Warriors' archrival, Trico, is still ranked second in the state to defending state champion Hardin Calhoun after being picked second in the ICA's preseason poll in February.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Steeleville (5-1) was coming off a 4-0 victory over LaVergne (Tenn.) last Friday in the Southern Warrior Classic in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The Lady Warriors will travel to Eminence, Mo., this weekend for a softball camp.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Steeleville play a junior varsity game Friday at 6 p.m. and two varsity games on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. The Lady Warriors are scheduled to play Van Buren High School, which won the MSHSAA Class 1 softball title last October, at noon and West County at 2 p.m.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">Also ranked in the ICA's top 10 is Steeleville's Cahokia Conference Kaskaskia Division rival in New Athens, which is 6-2 as of Tuesday.</span>
<span style="font-weight: 400;">The Yellow Jackets are led by junior Jenna Alfeldt, who is batting .767 thus far on the season with 23 hits in 30 at-bats with seven doubles, one home run and 17 RBIs.</span>
