Lady Panthers rally late to top Du Quoin in extras, 4-3
The Du Quoin Lady Indians lost a heartbreaker to Pinckneyville Tuesday evening, squandering a three-run lead as the Lady Panthers came back to win in the bottom of the eighth-inning, 4-3. <br />Both Daisy Dudek and Mackenzie Jackson were impressive from the circle. <br />Dudek picked up the win, tossing eight innings and allowing three runs (zero earned) on five hits, one walk while striking out seven. <br />Jackson was impressive as well, allowing four runs on eight hits, two walks while striking out eight. <br />Trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Pinckneyville ignited a rally from the bottom of the lineup. <br />Mayci Doerflein led things off with double and Megan Mayo followed up with a single to score her and bring the Lady Panthers within one 3-2. <br />Jackson struck out the next batter, but Kylee Kling followed up with a double to put runners on second and third with one out. <br />Kiya Hagene plated Mayo to tie the game at three on a Lady Indian error. Jackson walked Mariah Clark to load the bases up with one out and the winning run on third base. <br />But, Jackson was able to regain composure and retire the next two batters to force extra innings. <br />Dudek retired the side in the top of the eighth to set up the walk-off scenario.<br />Josie Gleason led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and reached second on a fielding error to set up Doerflein. Doerflein capitalized with an RBI walk-off single to give Pinckneyville the 4-3 win, improving to 8-3 while Du Quoin drops to 8-4. <br />Pinckneyville will resume action with a conference matchup at Anna-Jonesboro Thursday at 4:30 p.m.<br />Du Quoin was scheduled to resume action Wednesday at Johnston City at 4:30 p.m.
