Robert J. “Bob” Profitt, Du Quoin

Robert J. "Bob" Profitt, 83, of Du Quoin passed away at 4:04 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Bob was production manager for 30 years at Turco/Charmglow. He also worked at ACE Hardware and had managed Superwash. He was a star basketball player at Hurst-Bush High School and also played baseball. He was recruited to play basketball at SIU but was drafted. Bob was a United States Air Force veteran. He attended SIU. He was born July 14, 1933, in Hurst, the son of John Alex and Thelma (Huddleston) Profitt. He married Nancy Ann Eyre July 11, 1959, in Pinckneyville, and she preceded him in death March 18, 2004. He is survived by one son, Jeff Profitt of Du Quoin; nieces Nikki Saunders and husband Frank of Du Quoin, Kelly Burch of Wyle, Texas, Robin Edwards and husband Randy of Pinckneyville, and Kathy Bell of Pinckneyville; sister-in-law Charlotte Mangin of Du Quoin; special cousin Don Huddleston; special friends Ardell and Janet Tripp of Hurst; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Steve Marek conducting the service. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service Monday at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin. Friends may make memorials to Marshall Browning Hospital Tree of Life, Hospice of Southern Illinois or the American Cancer Society. They will be accepted at the funeral home.
