Du Quoin Garden Club annual plant sale set for Saturday

<div class="PlainText"><span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_99_285" tabindex="0">The Du Quoin Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Du Quoin Plaza parking lot, located across from Hardee's at 325 S. Washington St.</span> <br /> Most of the plants for the annual plant sale come from members' gardens, so they are hardy to our area. Perennials, herbs, shrubs, grasses, bulbs, annuals and extra gardening items will be available. <br /> <span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_488_583" tabindex="0">Solar eclipse glasses to observe the Aug. 21 eclipse will be available this year for $2 a pair.</span> <span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_584_729" tabindex="0">The proceeds from the glasses will help fund the Garden Clubs of Illinois District VII Flower Show July 15 at the Pavilion of the City of Marion.</span> <br /> The amount made from the plant sale continues to fund the Du Quoin Garden Club's main emphasis of helping to make the community an attractive place to live.<br /> In case of rain the sale goes on under the awning of the Shelter Insurance Building at the same location. <br /> The club, organized in 1958 with the first plant sale held in 1966, maintains the gardens and planters at the Du Quoin Post Office, Keyes City Park and Hosta garden, the gazebo/mini park on Main Street and the South 51 welcome sign south of the city. <br /> Club members also assist the Du Quoin Tourism Committee each spring with planting the downtown planters and provide planters or hanging baskets to Fairview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in the spring. Poinsettias are presented to Marshall Browning Hospital and the Du Quoin Public Library during the Christmas season as well as donations to benefit the needs of others.</div>
