Lady Indians take third at Don Webb Invitational
Gabby Alongi set a new school record Monday evening as Du Quoin finished third as a team at the Don Webb Invitational in Benton with 74.5 points.<br />Carbondale won the meet with 114.5 points, while Nashville finished second with 95. <br />Alongi set the record in the 3200-meter run, finishing in 12:31 to edge out the previous record holder, Jennifer Dalby, who set the mark in 1994 with a time of 12:34.<br />This marks the second school record for the freshman runner, having bested her mother's (Cara Alongi) 800-meter run record earlier in the season. <br />On top of the school record and third-place finish in the 3200-meter run, Alongi also took first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:37.03.<br />Other top performers for Du Quoin were Tarynn Mays with wins in the triple jump (with a distance of 35'9") and 100-meter dash (with a time of 12.83 seconds). She also took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.28 seconds. <br />Madison Davis had an impressive day as well, finishing third in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:05.89 and fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.06.<br />Davis also helped the 4x100-meter relay team (Hannah Baxter, Mays, Bailey Harsy and Davis) to a first-place finish with a time of 52.62 seconds. <br />Harsy also scored points for Du Quoin in the 100-meter hurdles (finishing seventh with a time 19.29 seconds), 300-meter hurdles (finishing eighth with a time of 56.88 seconds).<br />Elizabeth Bird also scored points for Du Quoin, finishing seventh in the high jump with a height of 4'8". <br />The Lady Indians will look to continue its impressive season Friday at the Buzz Bradley Invite at Sparta High School. The meet is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
