Robert William Horntrop of Metropolis
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Robert William Horntrop, 89, of Metropolis passed away at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.<br /> Robert had worked for General Telephone as an equipment technician for 37 years and retired in 1985. He was a member of Seven Mile Baptist Church in Metropolis. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Phoenix Masonic Lodge <span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_414_434" tabindex="0">346 in Sarasota, Fla</span>., for more than 60 years. Robert was also a member of the American Legion 306 in Metropolis for 50 years. Robert was a graduate of Metropolis Community High School in 1946.<br /> He was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Metropolis, the son of Bill and Ethel (Stepter) Horntrop.<br /> He married Norma J. Kennedy Jan. 19, 1951, in Piggott, Ark., and she survives.<br /> He is survived by his wife of Metropolis; two nieces, Allison Walker of Petersburg and Sandra Cox of Statesville, N.C.; two nephews, Randy Blanchard of Riverton and Shane Blanchard of Indian Trail, N.C.; special friend Herman Lowell Brown of Fairfield; two great-nephews; one great-niece; one great-great-nephew; and one great-great-niece.<br /> He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth M. Blanchard; and one brother-in-law, Bob Blanchard.<br /> <span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_1226_1359" tabindex="0">Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Marvin Ballard officiating.</span><br /> <span class="contextualExtensionHighlight ms-font-color-themePrimary ms-border-color-themePrimary ident_1360_1458" tabindex="0">Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.</span><br /> Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the Army National Guard.<br /> Friends may make memorials to the Seven Mile Baptist Church Building Fund, Muscular Dystrophy or the donor's choice.
