Indians edge out Panthers in first full meet in two weeks
Du Quoin was able to get its first full track meet in since April 18 (with the last few either cancelled or ended quickly due to weather conditions) and they made the most of it, taking first at home with 103.5 points, edging out Pinckneyville who finished with 96.5. <br />Sesser-Valier finished third with 34, while Christopher took 31 points in the meet that was scheduled just a day in advance. <br />The Indians took first in seven different events, while the Panthers finished with nine first-place finishes.<br />Du Quoin dominated field competition, winning five out of the six events. <br />Caleb Vogel took first in three of them, winning the triple jump with a jump of 40'03", the long jump with a jump of 19'03" and the high jump with a jump of 6'06". Teammate Zayne Fornear finished right behind in the long and triple jump with marks of 19'02" and 39'00", respectively. <br />Harley Gassel took first in the pole vault, matching his PR with a jump of 12 feet, while teammate Kennan Johnston took second with a jump of 9'06". <br />Devin Jones took first in the discus throw with a throw of 170'10", while teammate Howard Clark took second with a throw of 123'03". <br />The Panthers took the other field event, with Dalton Kitchen winning the shot put with a throw of 43'07". Teammate Nick Cannon took second with a throw of 42'11". <br />Shamar Adams was the only individual winner for Du Quoin on the track, taking first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.88 seconds, edging out teammate Kyle Robinson who finished second with a time of 15.92 seconds. <br />The Panthers won eight events on the track. <br />Caleb Logan took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.46 seconds, while teammate Devin Kitchen took second with a time of 12.02 seconds. <br />Kitchen took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.51 seconds, edging out Du Quoin's Michael Worthington (25.64 seconds) and Klayton Donoghue (25.91 seconds).<br />Grant Batteau took first for the Panthers in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:04.53, while teammate Ryan Brueggemann took second with a time of 2:17.55. <br />Other Individual winners for Pinckneyville were Garret Johnson in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:59.91 and Liam Oliver in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:00.26, just ahead of Du Quoin's Nathan Manning (12:12.88). <br />The Panthers 4x200 (Kitchen, Grayson Buza, Stetson Lappin and Logan), 4x400 (Batteau, Brady Louis, Logan and Buza) and 4x800 (Johnson, Brueggemann, Grant Tanner and Batteau) meter relay teams all took first place as well. <br />Du Quoin took first in the 4x100-meter relay with Westly Milam, Fornear, Gassel and Sam Zettler finishing in 44.79 seconds. <br />Pinckneyville and Du Quoin will resume action Wednesday (today) at the Chuck Oyler Invitational at Benton High School, with field events starting at 4 p.m.
