Minor injuries in separate crashes
The Illinois State Police responded to two separate crashes on Wednesday morning, neither of which resulted in significant injuries.
The first was reported at 6:45 a.m. on State Route 155 at Pioneer Lane. According to the ISP, 29-year-old Kendra M. Bieber, of Prairie du Rocher, was driving a 2008 Ford Focus eastbound on Route 155.
A preliminary investigation revealed Bieber, according to a witness, lost control of her vehicle after applying the brakes and the Focus went across the oncoming lane of traffic and struck a guardrail.
The vehicle then continued on the back side of the guardrail and into a small creek where it came to rest upright. The ISP noted that weather conditions at the time included rain and wet pavement.
Bieber was transported to a local hospital via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. She was cited for improper lane useage.
A little more than three hours later, at 9:51 a.m., the ISP received a report of another single-vehicle crash on Randolph County Line Road three-tenths of a mile west of Unna Lane.
The ISP reported that 25-year-old Malori K. Thompson, of Marissa, was driving a 2011 GMC Acadia eastbound on County Line Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed Thompson told responding law enforcement that she believes she fell asleep and the passenger-side tires of the GMC left the right side of the roadway.
The vehicle then continued down the shoulder for approximately 60 feet before striking the end of a bridge abutment. Thompson was then extricated from the vehicle by the Marissa Fire Department.
Thompson, who was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. In both crashes, the vehicles were towed from the scene.
