IHSA announces postseason pairings

The IHSA announced its postseason pairings for baseball and softball on Wednesday, with regional competition set to begin on May 15.

In Class 1A baseball, No. 5 seed Steeleville will take on No. 3 Cobden on Thursday, May 18, at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the Trico Regional.

No. 2 seed Trico will take on the winner of seventh-seeded Shawnee and sixth-seeded Elverado in the other semifinal at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17.

The regional championship will be Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. The regional champion will advance to the Goreville Sectional and play the winner of the Gallatin County Regional on Thursday, May 25, at 7 p.m.

In Class 2A baseball, 10th-seeded Chester will host Randolph County rival and No. 11 seed Sparta in the play-in game of the Red Bud Regional on Monday, May 15, at 4:30 p.m.

The winner will get No. 1 seed Nashville in the semifinals on Wednesday, May 17, in Red Bud. The regional championship is scheduled for Saturday, May 20, at 11 a.m.

In Class 1A softball, No. 1 seed and state-ranked Steeleville will face the winner of ninth-seeded Grayville and seventh-seeded Elverado in the semifinals of its own regional on Tuesday, May 16, at 4:30 p.m.

Steeleville's archrival, No. 2 seed Trico, was assigned to the Carrier Mills-Stonefort Regional and a Steeleville-Trico matchup could not theoretically occur until the championship game of the Pioneers' own sectional.

In Class 2A softball, seventh-seeded Chester will host eighth-seeded Vienna in the play-in game of the Anna-Jonesboro Regional on Monday, May 15, at 4:30 p.m. The winner will get No. 1 seed, and SIRR Mississippi Division champion, Pinckneyville on Tuesday, May 16, at 4:30 p.m. in Anna.

The regional championship would take place on Saturday, May 20, at 11 a.m.
