Jim Shields, of Chester
JAMES R. "JIM" SHIELDS, 75, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born to the late Lawrence and Margaret (nee Leinicke) Shields on November 15, 1941 in Murphysboro, Illinois.
He married Sharon Mueller on March 3, 1962 in Raddle. She survives.
Jim was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus #3790 Chester, the Eagles Club Aerie #3252 Chester and the Chester Country Club. Jim was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame fan.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chester, St. Mary's Cemetery Committee and ushered weekly on Sunday mornings.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Shields, Chester; four children Mark (Judy) Shields, Chester, Leah (Tate) Search, Chester, Jay (Dawn) Shields, Dyer, Ind., and Denice (Mike) Atchison, Chester.
Other survivors are siblings Pat (Ann) Shields, Hopkinsville, Ken., Lois Shields, Chester, Tom (Linda) Shields, Rockwood, Mike (Kathy) Shields, Belleville; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Verseman, Valley Park, Mo. And one brother-in-law, Lloyd (Ruth) Mueller, Murphysboro.
Additional survivors are six grandchildren, Tyler (Kacey) Search, Nicole (Brendan) Madsen, Megan Atchison, Mikayla Atchison, Jordyn Shields and Justin Shields; two step-grandchildren, Jodi (Michael) Baker and Sara (Chris) Childers; one step great-grandchild, Josie Childers; one great-grandchild, Baby Search – Due September 2017 – and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by parents, two brothers and one sister-in-law – Richard Shields, Kenny and Belva Shields
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chester, Illinois with the Very Reverend Eugene H. Wojcik, V.F. and Father Brett Judkins officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Chester, Illinois.
Visitation will be Sunday, 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Monday, 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester, Illinois.
