Indians take first at Du Quoin Classic
The Du Quoin boys track team took home its second first-place finish of the week Friday afternoon, finishing the Du Quoin classic with 116.5 points to edge out madison (102) and Pinckneyville (100). <br />The Indians took first in four different events among the 15 teams competing.<br />Devin Jones dominated the field in the discus throw, finishing more than thirty feet ahead of the second-place finisher with a throw of 167-06. Teammate Howard Clark took fourth with a throw of 120-09. <br />Zayne Fornear edged out a win in the long jump with a jump of 20-09.50, two inches ahead of Chester's Savion Smith. Teammate Caleb Vogel took fourth with a jump of 19-08.50. <br />Harly Gassel took first in the pole vault, setting a new PR of 12'6", while teammate Keenan Johnston took third with a height of 9'06". <br />Caleb Vogel took the other first-place finish, winning the high jump by four inches with a jump of 6'04". <br />The Indians 4x100-meter relay team (Westly Milam, Fornear, Gassel and Sam Zettler) finished second with a time of 44.84 seconds, .31 seconds behind first-place Madison and less than half a second ahead of Pinckneyville (Brady Louis, Grayson Buza, Stetson Lappin and Caleb Logan). <br />Shamar Adams had an impressive day for Du Quoin, setting a new PR in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.73 seconds to finish second, ahead of teammate Kyle Robinson who finished fourth with a time of 16.09. Adams also took fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.16 seconds, while teammate Gassel took sixth. <br />Sam Zettler scored in a tiro of events, taking fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.77 seconds and sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.72 seconds and sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.12 seconds. <br />Leading the way in Pinckneyville's third-place finish was senior Caleb Logan. <br />Logan took first in the 100-meter dash (11.11 seconds), 200-meter dash (23.08 seconds) and 400-meter dash (50.18 seconds). <br />Dalton Kitchen and Nick Cannon scored in the shot put for the Panthers with a a third and fourth-place finish, respectively. <br />Lappin and Louis took second and third, respectively, in the 300-meter hurdles. Grant Batteau took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:04.84, while teammate Garrett Johnson took fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:55.40. <br />Du Quoin and Pinckneyville will resume action at the SIRR Mississippi Division conference championship at Pinckneyville High School on Thursday. Field events are scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
